Even saying the words "rotten foods" conjures up images of mold, bacteria, horrible odors, and potential sickness. But did you know there is actually a good side to those mounds of foods that have begun to exemplify the traits of the local garbage dump?
Our body actually respond to foods just like those refuse centers. It takes in the foods (via food consumption) and begins to decompose it (via chewing and swallowing) until it can no be broken down. So technically, we have a substantial amount of "rotted foods" in various stages of decomposition in our body at any given time. And that's where probiotics come in to play. In this 3 minute video from SciShow, it's explained how the living bacteria found in our body can actually help us to pre-digest (or begin decomposition) the foods we eat.
jHere's my take on the video. As it explains, we need a significant amount of good bacteria in our gut and digestive system to properly break down foods so that we can obtain the nutrients from them.
An often overlooked component of probiotics is that without them, it would be very difficult for our body to be healthy and properly eliminate food waste from our bodies. Without these good bacteria, our body would become one large garbage dump full of toxic waste, sludge, trash, and non-recyclable trash.
