Can Behavior Be Changed With Nutrition?
What happens if you feel bad after eating and your behavior was impaired? Would you want to know more of the foods that negatively affect your thoughts?
There is more and more research coming out that is showing a strong correlation between the foods we eat, how we process those foods in our gut, and ultimately how efficiently our brain works. This research is showing that the foods we put into our bodies is black and white: energy supporting or energy-draining, pro-inflammatory, or anti-inflammatory. But how do we use this information? Fermented Fruit Drinks
Have you ever wondered what exactly is fermentation or how to get healthy bacteria to your system using a method like lacto-fermentation? One of the most interesting things about foods in general is that you can actually ferment most foods, as long as there is some carbohydrates in it. So knowing that, how long does it take for bananas to ferment?
Personalized Health Advice
Today, I'm going to be talking about Dr. Oz, and more specifically, how Dr. Oz is really changing the landscape in terms of people looking at the nutritional supplements they're taking. However, I'd like to take one step back and say this. I think Dr. Oz is really very knowledgeable. I like his show, I've seen it a couple of times. He makes a zillion times more money than I do, and he has no effect on my business, so I don't have any issues with Dr. Oz.
The thing that I have is that I have discussed with probably 10, 20 or so people about how they saw something on Dr. Oz or another show, and that there is this product that... (fill-in-the-blank)...increases metabolism, helps you lose weight, or can help you get more energy. This happens in a majority of instances. When I hear it, I'd like to take a step back and say, "Ok, well, what do you know about it?"
If you want good, gut health, it's important to focus on food quality. Why? Burning fat with efficiently running digestion is the key to optimal health.
In this week's video blog episode, I explain how the quality of foods can ease digestion and bioavailability of food (or how your body uses the vitamins and nutrients from foods) can help you lose weight. After watching the video, you'll better understand why calories don't matter for digestion.
When it comes to eating liver or other organ meats, there are many different opinions about how does liver taste, why we should eat it because it's nutritious, or who should not eat liver.
But in this video I shot with my son, we prepare a meal of liver and onions together to find out what liver tastes like and if it is good. (I'll apologize for my son's video skills.... it's always a work in progress with children). :-)
Note: Thanks for watching the video (and hopefully you watched it with subtitles). There are some definite health benefits of eating liver. Ultimately, the question of whether you should eat liver comes down to a philosophical belief or whether you think people are "bad" for eating organ meats because he and I definitely made it quite tasty. If I was to provide you with a food label from any food in a grocery store, would you be able to decipher it? Would you be able to breakdown the requirements to determine if it would be something you should eat? If you are like most people, I would bet a resounding "no" came out of your mouth. In my latest 2 minute video, I expand on my earlier video about serving sizes where I give the scoop on why it's so confusing and give you a couple tips to easily make good, healthy decisions.
