How to settle an upset stomach in 5 minutes

As I sat waiting for my boys to finish their haircuts, I found myself getting more and more irritated with the stylist. We had a birthday party to attend to for my grandmother and was running late on time.

The stylist had brought her 2 year old with her, and this precocious toddler had a severe case of separation anxiety. In between the bouts of crying and picking up the girl, she made small cuts to the boys' hair.  "Ugh!", I thought.  How long will this now take...

I was becoming more and more impatient because what was supposed to take 20-30 minutes, was now approaching an hour. I kept looking at my phone (you know, it's a watch too), hoping she'd get the hint that we were in a hurry.

But I realized that the more I was pacing and checking the time, the more my stomach was making loud noises. Yikes! I thought. What a place to have stomach grumblings.

Then I realized that if I just took a step back and relaxed, the slight pain went away. After 5 minutes of just sitting and breathing, it eventually went away completely.. This got me to think about why stomach problems occur and how being in a hurry contributes to these problems.

How many times have we eaten a meal in less than a couple of minutes? What about sitting in your car scarfing down some fast food even before you make it out of the drive thru lane? The faster you eat, the less your body has a chance to fully digest the foods and can cause gas and bloating.

Most of us are pre-wired to hurrily eat our meals. Always thinking about something else other than the food in front of us. And the faster you eat, the greater the chance of having stomach problems now or sometime in the future.

So take some time to eat your next meal; try to make it last 15 minutes. I bet most of you will be struggling after 10. When we finally finished the haircuts, this is what I saw, a smiling face, happy with the results. The longer you take to digest your foods the more your stomach will be happy with the results as well.

Bonus:  One of the biggest issues with stomach issues is because foods that are consumed aren't properly broken down.  There is one specific substance that is most important when it comes to eliminating digestion issues.  (If you want to improve your gut-health, click here to get your free eBook on this critical substance).
