Bacterial Science And Our Body
How are we to stay healthy in a bacterial science world? With so many environmental changes, it should be no secret why bacterial science is changing the world.
There are many areas where bacterial research has shown significant promise. Although these areas might at the cutting edge of probiotics, they might be considered taboo by many. Would you consider them if they might improve your gut health?
We're quite familiar with connecting the words “gut microbiome” and then associating it with our bellies and digestion, but what other areas are science and research exploring to find new and possibly breakthrough information on our body's bacteria? We're all adults here, so having said that, the vaginal microbiome is a new frontier that has begun to show some promise as to how we could treat and prevents infections, and scientists have found promise in understanding the bacterial make-up of it.
The vagina, just like most other parts on our body has its own microbiome. The mouth has its own, and the skin has its own as well. We have mini biomes and ecosystems residing all over and in our bodies, and if we are wanting to take a holistic approach to our health, they should be looked at in more detail. Although it's only in its beginning stage of research and most of how it interacts with other microbiome is unknown, initial findings has shown that bacterial species like lactobacillus, found in things like yogurt, have been shown to support vaginal health. Interestingly, a company recently released the first vaginal microbiome test, and it found that there was over 20 vaginal specific flora. Would you have thought this would happen 10 years ago? While we are speaking of “taboo” topics, another area that is showing promise and in its infancy is fecal transplants. If you were to Google them, you'd see more and more articles covering fecal transplants showing interest and gaining traction. The idea of taking someone else's bowel movement and transplanting it into another's body is a very tough concept to grasp, however, based on initial research, the possibility of having future health benefits for people who have severe gut dysbiosis might be of interest and get you to change your mindset. Again, it is in its infancy, but what research that has been done has found that introducing healthy fecal bacteria into someone who had severe gut issues may help it to actually heal and regenerate itself in its host. Now that's bacteria, for the win. So how is is possible to get healthy using new techniques in bacterial science? The idea and relationship between it and our body is definitely one to consider if we are to make strides in the health of society. Fecal transplants and vaginal microbiomes are two of the reasons why bacterial science is revolutionary.
Note: I am fascinated with finding new and revolutionary uses as to how our microbiome can improve our health.
