What Are Antioxidants And Why Are They Good For You?
What foods are high in antioxidants? Knowing the most nutritious ones to eat is crucial for health and understanding why antioxidants are good for you.
It's important to know what antioxidants are, and I'll provide you with a different perspective as to where and how you can get those antioxidants to inevitably protect yourself against those free radicals that we discussed in the previous podcast episode.
The free radicals and oxidative stress our body creates in order to defend itself against toxins actually can cause us to get sick, become diseases, and possibly even die prematurely. But nature has a solution to the problem, and they are called antioxidants. Antioxidants are our defense against free radicals and can be found in any living natural food. Where? Antioxidants are found in the colorful living fruits and vegetables. It is within those colors that we find antioxidants. So those brightly colored fruits and vegetables that appear fresh, nutritious are full of antioxidants called flavonoids, which are the natural pigments that give plants and vegetables their color.
This means naturally brighter and colorful foods have more antioxidants than dull, drab, and non-colorful ones. You should note that food manufacturers know this as well and attempt to fool you by adding dyes to make their products more attractive to shoppers. This gives you more reason to actually as to why you should be buying organic to ensure that you get at the antioxidants that you expect from bright, brightly colored fruits and vegetables. Eating colorful foods should answer the question as to why are antioxidants so good for your body. It is within those foods these antioxidants can go a long way to improve your well-being and brain health by these antioxidants.
