Gut Microbiota And Cortisol
Can an imbalanced digestive system increase cortisol levels to become chronic inflammation? What are the effects gut microbiota has on cortisol levels?
If you are wanting to be in the most optimal health, you must know the importance of giving your gut microbiota the tools it needs to combat the constant cortisol production in our bodies that the standard American diet and lifestyle produces. Ultimately, it needs to have the tools to reduce chronic inflammation.
We all know cortisol is the stress hormone and, if not regulated properly, can cause mental disorders like brain fog and impaired concentration to mood imbalances, depression, and anxiety. There has been significant research that has been done showing people who took 2 distinct types of probiotics, lactobacilli and bifidobacteria for a month showed significant decreases in cortisol levels. What this indicates is that these probiotics can improve the health of our brain and ultimately means better moods.
Cortisol causes natural inflammation, which is the way the body heals from disease, but when it can't be regulated, you may wind up with depression and other chronic diseases. There are certain gut bacteria species that can help to regulate this inflammation, so it's important to know that a way to improve memory loss, depression, cognitive and mood disorders, might first be found in your gut, but ultimately found in the probiotics you take. Cortisol has a significant effect on our immune system. Breaking it down further, the relationship between our gut microbiota and cortisol has been shown to improve our immunity which then effects so many other components of our overall health. Can cortisol be reduced with better digestion? Research has indicated it can.
