Mental Power Digestion
Is there a connection between your gut and your brain? Is the brain or the gut more powerful? Knowing which has the power to control what you eat is the key to resolving any health or digestion related issues you may have.
What part of your body is more powerful in determining what you eat, you brain or your gut? I'm going to use an illustration to prove my point. But let's say you've got that 3:00 pm crashing and you start to feel lethargic and your mind's saying, "Hey we need some food, food, food," and you start thinking about all those specific foods. But let's say you go pick out some potato chips, some sour cream and onion. You take that back to your desk, all the sudden you eat it. You feel, "Oh, that's great. And then about 10 minutes later you feel like you're hungry again.
Now, what's gong there? Well actually initially it's your brain that's telling you that we want something to eat. And it gives a specific meaning to a food. We want sour cream and onion chips. But then when all the sudden when your gut realizes there's no nutritional value in that, it's telling you again, "Hey, we're hungry again, we need something else to eat." The bottom line is that your gut always overpowers your brain in terms of telling you what you need to eat.
In this podcast episode, I explain that if you can name a specific type of food when you have cravings or that 3 pm crash, then it's this part of your body that is attempting to take control, and it's not necessarily what's best for you.
