Thinking Differently About Health
Here's why the future of health lies in our gut. It controls how much energy we get from foods. So, if you want to be healthy, start looking in your gut.
I believe the gut microbiome will be in the forefront of what it will mean for us to be holistically healthy. The first step is asking yourself at what stage in your life are you in trying to be at your most optimal health? Are you eating healthy? Are you exercising? Taking supplements? While all of those are useful and are beneficial, all of these things couldn't be accomplished without a living gut that serves as the foundation to be healthy.
We all can make small changes to our day in order to find a better “sweet spot” to improve something in our lives. Maybe that means drinking a different kind of coffee (or giving it up entirely), making natural shampoo, but the center of change lies in an area we can't see. I'm specifically talking about your gut flora and microbiome. That is where the true nature of making a significant deep impact on your overall health can take place.
Pick up a newspaper, and you probably will see some article related to some health-related issue that indicates a break down of the immune system. If you've been following these podcasts for long, you'd know that most of that immune system resides in the gut. It's so fascinating the amount of research dedicated to finding a correlation between our intestines and diseases has picked up within the last several years. This correlation is something that was unheard of and even laughed at 15-20 years ago. , which is something unheard of and probably scoffed and laughed at 15 years ago. The bottom line is that if you have had your what I call an “A-ha” moment and are at the spot in your life where you need, want, or have to make changes in your health “or else”, you should begin to look deeply into why your microbiome is so important and then google whatever issue is ailing you and add “and gut microbiome” and then research more into what you find. Going forward, living a healthy life outside-the-box will be the key. We must begin thinking differently about health and that all starts in our digestion and microbiome. Focusing our health in the gut will not only be the best way to approach it, but will be at the forefront of what it means to be healthy.
