Psychobiotics And The Manipulation Of The Gut-Brain-Signals
Do you know how your gut bacteria controls your brain? In order to live a healthy life, we should know how your gut bacteria affects the brain and body.
If I was to ask you how much bacteria do you think you have in your gut, what would you say? Would you say something like a couple dozen ounces? The amazing thing about our gut bacteria is that at any given time, a body could have up to 4 pounds of bacteria in a healthy gut. Would that surprise you?
With such a large amount of bacteria, you might guess that it can have a huge impact on your overall health. What's even cooler is that science has found there are certain bacterial species that directly affect the workings of your brain called Psychobiotics. These psychobiotics can manipulate your gut-brain connection through chemical transactions that assist our body in functioning more efficiently. I encourage you to Google that one so you can see how much these actually help our bodies.
In future episodes and posts, I'll go into more detail about psychobiotics, but for now, an easy way to imagine what psychobiotics do for us is for you to picture a bacterial highway traveling from your belly to your brain; it's those bacteria that regulate the flow of traffic between the two. Once you understand how much your gut bacteria weights, you can see how psychobiotics might inevitably manipulate the gut-brain-signals for better or worse. How gut bacteria impacts health is how we can become healthier and stronger in the process.
