Combinations Of Gut Microbiome
Do we all have the same gut dna? If we are to healthy as an individual, we should know how much does our gut biome differ from others and why it matters.
Just like your DNA, the population and make up of your gut bacteria is unique from everyone else. It's as unique as your fingerprint. There have been estimates of the amount bacteria found in your gut ranges from a trillion to tens of trillions in various combinations in any of the thousands of species that scientists currently know about. In a typical “healthy” gut microbiome, a body should have at least 85% good bacteria with the remaining bad bacteria.
If you've been following (and hopefully listening to these podcasts on the regular), you'd know that good bacteria does so many beneficial things in our bodies. It helps to break down foods into more usable components for better nutrition as well as destroys the toxins for eventual elimination through our bowel movements. They're essential for our good health and have been known to play a part in preventing conditions like obesity, diabetes, heart disease as well as disorders that can damage our brain and it's regenerative abilities.
Do we all have the same gut microbiome? I hope you are realizing that the combinations of gut microbiome in our bodies is as different as it is with our own genetic DNA. The larger question, and one we should be focusing on if we want to improve our health is why our gut microbes are unique. Answering that question will unlock many secrets to society's health.
