What Does It Mean To Be Holistically Healthy?
Is there a way to look at holistic nutrition as a foundation for a healthy lifestyle? The bottom line is that is formed around "healthy eating" habits and nutrition, but how do we do that? I'm going to be discussing the second pillar of health necessary to be holistically healthy, and that's being nutritionally or digestively strong.
Whether we realize it our not, our nutrition is ultimately tied to physical health. I believe it is so critical that it should have it's own pillar and could actually stand alone. Part of this is because getting the full value of nutrition is customized based on each individual's age, sex, activity level, and body chemistry; every is totally different. This in order for us to strengthen this pillar, careful attention should be placed on your diet and that you give specific focus on digestion.
Life stressors and time commitments will make these tasks difficult for some, however, enhancinng what is already working can facilitate the strengthening of the four other pillars of holistic health and well-being.
So here are my 3 out of the box ideas on how you can begin to address your specific nutritional needs: 1. One day a week, eat only whole organic fruits and vegetables, you know, the items in the produce aisle. 2. Add a vegetable every time you eat. This means when you snack or actually sit (or stand) to eat a meal. 3. Lastly, at that moment that you are actually physically ready to begin to eat and take that initial bite of a meal, wait 60 seconds. You will be astounded at how your mental attitude changes as it relates to what you are eating to nourish your body.
