Digestion Immune System
I'm gonna be giving you 10 amazing facts you probably didn't know about your digestive system. Number one, that the gut is the only organ in the body that can actually function without regulatory oversight from the brain. Even your heart can't do that. Number two, there are over a hundred million brain cells located in your gut. That's actually more that's than found in the spinal cord and the peripheral nervous system.
Number three, speaking of nervous system, the gut has its own nervous system. It's call the enteric nervous system, and it's that thing that actually helps you get foods from point A to point B in elimination. Number four is that the gut actually sends emotional signals to the brain. Roughly 90% of the fibers carry information from the gut to the brain, not the other way around. Number five, GI issues, or gastrointestinal issues, are considered really a mood issue. Did you know that roughly 95% of the serotonin, you know, that happy hormone, is actually produced in the gut, so it's no wonder digestion plays a key role.
