What Is Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy
Are there any natural ways to reduce anxiety and depression? Understanding that depression and loneliness can be affected by mindfulness is crucial.
Everyone at some point in their lives will experience a bout of sadness or possible anxiety. It was during my first experiences with it that I learned some tools that helped me to overcome what was causing my depression and anxiety, these tools being a bit of mindfulness and spiritual meditation. I realize that words like meditation and mindfulness are trending, but there is more and more research out there that cognitive therapies based on mindfulness are showing promising results.
There were some studies I found that had been done at a university in England that found daily, 30-minute mindfulness meditation sessions, in many instances, were better than prescription drugs or even counseling for depression. In one study, 75% of patients, after 4 months of doing nothing else but this practice of mindful meditation, felt good enough to stop taking drugs.
Based on my own personal experience, I found that I had a difficult time doing the traditional “meditation” or guided meditation discussed. The method of mindful meditation I chose was more spiritual prayer that I felt allowed me to become more grateful and ultimately address the underlying issues I had causing my stress, anxiety, my disordered eating patterns of simply not eating. You should be aware that this science is young but has had a significant effect on me and might for you if you give it a chance. Based on my own experiences, I can answer the question, “Does anxiety affect digestion” with a definite “Yes”. What I choose to do to change that behavior was using a more focused mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and was so affected by it, that mindfulness helped resolve my anxiety issues.
