Empathy, How To Improve
One of the topics of conversation I seem to be having most often with my children is how to be a more compassionate and understanding human being. My biggest challenge when discussing the state of the world is to show them that they have to take an active role in life. My belief is that we are put on this earth to create a better space for those around us. Before we create a better space out of our circle, however, we should create a better space within our circle. And that starts with having empathy. ⠀
Empathy is different that sympathy. Sympathy takes no action on your part, whereas empathy requires you to take an active role in understanding the other party; your goal is to understand them better. When discussing a difficult situation, my kids have a habit of saying things like, "that's sad" or "I can't believe that happened to him/her". That's sympathy. How To Deal With Cheat Meals?
Recently, I had a lengthy discussion about foods and how many people, especially in the fitness industry, use certain kinds of foods as rewards for doing something “good” for their body. You know the routine... “if I do 30 minutes on the cardio machine, then I can have that drink/get that dessert/order those onion rings instead of veggies. It got fairly heated because I attempted to dispel that idea altogether.⠀
It's important to note that there is a correlation between your gut and essentially every other function in our bodies. Most people associate it will “feeling bad”, but there is more and more evidence pointing to the relationship between gut health and mental health. But let's look at this more in-depth. Best Fermented Foods For Gut Health
What are the differences or similarities between probiotic foods and fermented foods, or is there a difference? When you add bacteria and microorganisms to food, there's a process that makes it tasty and nutritious, it's called fermentation, but there's a misconception that fermented foods are probiotic. For example, not all fermented foods are probiotic.
Beer and wine, those are fermented foods, but they don't contain live cultures and then if you had that fermented food, but bake it or can it or pasteurize it eliminates that probiotic benefit.
