Relationship Between DNA And Genes And Gut Health

Long term effects of bacteria

The Secret Of Nature Vs. Nurture

Do you have strong gut bacteria?  When it comes to the genetic makeup of that bacteria, does nature or nurture play a bigger role in it's health? These questions can be answered by looking at our intestinal fitness and intestine microbiome from a nature versus nurture aspect to determine which has the bigger and more effect.

The composition of the microbiome differs from person to person, with each one having a different bacterial makeup.  For a long time, it's been thought that this variability finds its origins in our variations in our genes.  This is the nature component of it.
Current studies have discovered that genetic version contributes to only 2% to microbiome make up.  The biggest effects on that microbiome is how and what you eat, your weight loss program, and how you choose to live your life .  This is the nurture component of it.

Looking at it from a broader perspective, this is really good news.  Why?  If you are wanting to change the bacterial makeup of your gut, you can, simply by changing the way you eat and encouraging a healthier lifestyle.  But what about your genome?  Can you change that?  Of course not.  This is set the minute we come in to this world.  But we can change our bacterial make up which has been shown to help us better digest and eliminate foods, which only improves our health long-term.

So looking at it from two different perspectives, there seems to be a relationship between dna and genes and gut health, which ultimately may be the secret of nature vs. nurture of digestion.  Want to know more? Listen to the following podcast.
